005th Oversoul ♨ Voice / Action

[Action]

[The sunrise finds Yoh leaving his house, after him a note is left behind for Madoka, together with an already prepared breakfast for her to enjoy. Today, he won't be returning home until late. The sky is clear but the cold air bites the skin through clothes with ease and the snow layer that covers the ground becomes deeper and deeper as he makes his way to the forest. The day feels pretty similar to that winter day in which he had met Anna for the first time, though when they met it had started to snow slightly. Back then Yoh had been very lonely, back then during those few days, all he had was Matamune. Now Matamune is no longer around and Yoh has many friends around him, good friends who at times feel as if they can see through him more than he would like them to, much like the cat spirit had done. Yet he still missed Matamune. He still wasn't strong enough to bring him back.]

Though I shouldn't worry about bringing him back when I can't even probably see Amidamaru yet.

[The sad smile he had transforms into a pout as he mumbles to himself. He really hates this place, it's so... Empty. It's hard to believe that there really are people who belong to this world, what happens with them when they die? Do they keep resurrecting over an over? A world without death... That's just sickening. It makes his blood boil together with everything else that is just wrong here. Sure, there are huge forests and the nature in this place is mostly uncorrupted, but he doubts Horohoro would enjoy this much either. No matter how many plants there are around, all of them feel just dead with no spirit in them, without a soul.

Eventually, he stops in a clearing, snow reaching to past his ankles as he takes off his shoes and coat, followed by his sweater and shirt. He stands in the snow and the cold, wearing just his pants as he begins a training routine. Simple exercises aimed to stretch muscles and warm up his body even under the cold, he moves slowly, closing his eyes and letting his body act on memory as he concentrates. After a couple of hours the cold stops biting his skin, the snow doesn't feel cold and wet, trapping his feet with each step he takes, time matters not to him and the winter breeze does nothing but whisper secrets in his mind. He's one with the nature around him, as void of soul as it is, it still is alive. He becomes indifferent to the elements, his mind and soul reaching for a higher state as he keeps training.]

ATCHOOOOO!!!

[Or maybe not. Okay, forget it, he's not one with the nature except for the fact that he's turning into an ice cube. Yoh hugs his own body in a vain attempt to keep some warm on it.]

F-Forget it, t-ther-e's n-no po-point in t-training if I-I d-die due a p-pneumonia!

[He can almost hear it, Amidamaru's voice encouraging him and making a fuss over him. If Anna was around... She wouldn't let him stop. But she's not around and he's still not convinced that there's even a point for this kind of training. He still doesn't know the causes of why he can't see Amidamaru as always, he still doesn't know if it's not a problem with him but something worse that may be taking a toll on the spirit. And he's freezing. He really has no mood to keep doing this for any more when he could be at his house, hidden under dozens of blankets and sipping a hot beverage.

The middle-morning finds Yoh returning to the house, stopping around the village to get some groceries he knows they are needing as well as something for lunch upon getting new ideas for it. Forget that note about being gone for the whole day.]

[Voice]

[In the afternoon, once he has warmed up his body, Yoh decides to play with his journal a bit. He doesn't use it often for himself, but today he feels in the mood for it.]

You know, lately I've noticed several people asking about the Filial Spirits in this place. To be honest I'm not an expert [Only regarding Luceti's spirits, that is.] but I talk with them basically everyday and practice with them. So... If anyone wants some help with that, maybe I can do it.

Ah, as a free piece of advice... If you're talking with Eferin, make sure you aren't somewhere where you can start a fire unintentionally, even if you're not going to train per say. You never are too safe, believe me.

[There's a pause in the recording before a soft sigh is heard, it's barely audible and it's hard to discern if it's a sad one or a tired one. When Yoh speaks, though, his tone is all but tired or sad.]

Say, what does winter mean to you? Has anything special or important to you happened during one of those cold days? Like meeting someone important, or... Losing someone important. Or maybe you just achieved something you had wanted for a long time. Or just had a small special moment that you remember fondly. I know there's Christmas around the corner, but, come on! I'm sure there's more than that in winter for everyone, right?

Is there a possibility to combine the energy provided by these spirits?

[Wow, that's not a question he expected to get, such a question is... It's something to expect from someone who knows what he's doing or at least is intelligent enough to put two and two together regarding spirits and energies. That's not something one sees often.]

You mean something like using both fire elemental magic and electricity at the same time? Or to really combine them and create something different?

[They are two very different things, after all.]

If it's the first one, I'm pretty sure the possibility is there, it won't be easy though and it probably depends on what you're trying to combine. And your goal for it as well in some cases.

The second one... I don't know, but even if it's possible under some circumstances I'm sure it's pretty hard and advanced. Their energy feels too disperse to be able to gather it and combine it with anything, much less do that twice and combine them together.

[Despite claiming he doesn't know, he does sound very sure about the last part having tried it in a certain way.]

[Yoh chuckles a bit.]

I think that whatever you feel like talking about would be fine. Tsinku is quite headstrong, but he's also very intelligent, I would say he's probably the most intelligent one among the spirits at least the ones I've managed to meet. Maybe telling him about your world and how it's different from this one would help to catch his attention.

It's how it kind of worked with me, hahaha.

[Personally, directly asking for their powers isn't a good thing, even if it's obvious that it's the main objective for many. However, the spirits he has met hadn't seemed to be against teaching, that's how he ended starting to learn after all, so he keeps it to himself.]

[Yoh just laughs again, Madoka really reminds him of Tamao at times, both are kind of weak willed and soft but they have it in them to be stronger than that. If only they would realize it and make their stand more often... ~~And years later Tamao finally gets out of her shell and Yoh regrets it forever because she's almost as scary as his wife~~

He obeys easily anyway, knowing that she has a point. The rest will be good and he knows she can take care of the groceries herself. He sits down easily with a sigh and another sneeze, chuckling and looking at where he can see Amidamaru's faint form worrying about him.]

It's okay, I'll be fine tomorrow at most. Still, I can't believe Horohoro could stand something like that, but it seems as if he could, right?

[Madoka may not see or hear Amidamaru, but from their time with an experiment in which they were siblings, she knows that he's there. Or at least she should know. Or know that Yoh is just crazy and talks alone, either way he doesn't bother to hide it from her as she hasn't showed that it annoys her or anything.

He smiles at the girl thankfully.]

A soup would be great if it's not too much of a bother to you, Madoka.

The religious meaning of the holiday has gotten lost quite a bit so I'm really not surprised you thought that way. Even Santa Claus has a religious background but that is also ignored for the most part. Humans have a big tendency to forget their origins like that.

So your rulers are like gods? I hope they are good rulers then, though if they weren't you probably would have said that already.

[Now part of him feels compelled to ask her if there's death in her world. One would think that death would exist everywhere, but with Luceti's experience Yoh can't be that sure, and it's a touchy subject anyway. How can one ask that? For now, though, he pushes it back, he's curious but it's not important.]

Ah, so this is your second winter here? I hope the lakes freeze again then, I think I'll take Madoka with me to skate around if they are. Would you want to come with us?

It wasn't? You wouldn't end trapped somewhere due it or something like that, did you?

[Because that isn't a pleasant experience at all.]

[Yoh smiles at the voice and then outright laughs at Aang's comment. It's not a mocking laugh or anything, more like a happy and sincere one. It's just amusing to him, ok?]

Seems you and me really have some things in common, eh? Winter means a lot for me as well, for pretty much the same reasons.

[A small pause as his chuckles stop.]

Hello, Aang. How have you been?

Princess Celestia's an awesome ruler, no questions there. Her sister Luna did turn evil for a little while, but my friends and I knocked the bad right outta her. Only problem's that she's a little behind on the times... by a thousand years.

[Which is a huge amount of time to miss. Definitely longer than most ponies even live.]

But, hey, if you guys go skating, I'm game. It'll give me something to do, anyway.

Hey, I can do that! Is there anythin' I should bring as an offerin'? Maybe somethin' electrical? [He's got his stungun and Dahak, so there's kind of an affinity there.]

One more thing. How do you know when you got enough of a connection to use this magic stuff? Am I just gonna start sparkin'?

[ Don't worry, she still remembers! It stood out to her as such a special and odd thing, after all, so she knows that when it seems like Yoh is talking to himself, he's actually just talking to the spirit.. although she does curiously glance around her as if she's trying to tell where it is, but of course she doesn't know, so in the end she just gives up and nods at Yoh instead. ]

I'll be right back, Yoh-san.. until then, please lie down there, okay? [ She turns around, pattering off to the kitchen. ]

Hi, Yoh. [He flashes a cheeky grin back.] I'm glad we have those things in common, too. And I've been well. It's been quiet lately, which I guess is good around here. What about you? I hear any fire, so that sounds like a good start.

First I need to locate them all, yes? And form an unbreakable bond. Yet, it is odd, are they beings of unlimited power and energy? Hence they supply at least half of the denizens out of the land of Luceti with their elemental magic.

Combining and re-inventing filial magic almost seems a must.

[He is noting things down while talking.]

Do the spirits get along with eachother?

Ahh.. N-no, not that... Something had happened and I basically had no home anymore, so being out in the cold snow wasn't so great.

[Forget asking about death, their rulers clearly have really long lifespans, regardless of the lifespan of a normal pony, with royalty living so long it's no wonder that there's not much of a religion there. There's no need for it.

Anyway, the story about a sister turned evil and then having "the bad knocked out of her" ping his attention. Though technically Hao was already "evil" since he was born as his brother.]

You "knocked the bad right out of her"? It must have been difficult, mind if I ask how you did it?

[He has to deal with Hao after all, even if he doesn't participate in the competition. It had always been that way, wasn't it? Everyone talked about the competition, but that's because no one wanted to tell Yoh much about Hao until he was ready to take it. Now he looks back and can see that most of the times, when they were talking about the competition they just meant that he had to take care of Hao. It's his responsibility as an Asakura.

He's fine with it, the problem is the method that he's supposed to use to deal with Hao. Chances are that what worked for this pony wouldn't work for him even if he were to remember it when returning to his world, but he still would like to hear it.]

It's difficult to deny that there's not much to do in this place. I'll ask Madoka about it and give you a call when we go for it if that's okay with you... I probably should introduce myself, the name's Yoh.

Maybe something electrical from your world? If only to show it to him, it may catch his attention and perk his curiosity.

[It's not a bad idea after all, a good excuse to start a conversation at the very least. Yoh laughs at the last question though.]

I don't think sparking is part of it. I'm not sure about how do you know that, but in my case they kind of pushed me to give it a try, so at worst I would say that they know very well when someone is ready and when they aren't. That said... In Tsinku's case I wouldn't try much until at least a month has passed, assuming you practice and train every day.

I haven't done much with the magic he teaches but it's quite draining and tiring, more than others as far as I've seen. And I'm someone who has trained to deal with things that drain a lot of energy from myself and cause a big strain. If I found it difficult I don't want to know what it would be for someone unprepared for it, though I doubt Tsinku would led you any power if he thought you weren't ready for it.

Okay, okay. Don't worry, Madoka, I won't do anything stupid again.

[For today at least. As she patters off to the kitchen he does as he has been told, laying down on the couch. He sneezes again and waves a hand at Amidamaru's direction.]

It's just the contrast between being out there and coming here, really don't worry. Madoka will help me and take good care of me, she's a good kid.

[He chuckles lightly as he senses Amidamaru's answer.]

Well, she and Tamao are definitively different people... But it's true they are similar enough to make this house feel more like a home. If only they would realize how strong they really are and stopped being scared and worried. But you're right, that's what makes them even more special. And there's definitively nothing wrong in taking things at their own pace, they have it in them, one day they will break their shells themselves.

Hahahaha... See? I told you something good could come even from those experiments.

[Yoh really has no qualms with talking to Amidamaru openly inside the house, and he doesn't care of Madoka hears him talking about her or not. Actually, maybe he would prefer if she heard him, Yoh can be sneaky like that.]

The unbreakable bond will take you a lot of time, though. I don't really think they are prone to form such a bond, though if all you want is a bond to use the magic they have it's a different thing. Though not unbreakable.

["Unbreakable bonds" aren't something Yoh takes lightly, he has seen many bonds that were supposed to be unbreakable be shattered to pieces with just a word. While he may have faith that any true bond can survive anything, he's not one to talk about something unbreakable regarding that.]

Hahahaha, no I think you have the wrong idea about how filial magic works. They certainly lend you their power but that's not all the time, they teach you how to drain that power from yourself so you don't need to call them or connecting with them every time you want to use said magic.

It's really not a matter of them supplying many people with their elemental magic, but more like them teaching many people how to use magic here.

[He pauses and hums for a second.]

I wouldn't say that any of them have problems with each other in the personal field at least. But I'm pretty sure that elemental affinities would matter a lot if you tried to combine their powers, you know, water and fire mixing together doesn't sound like a possible thing. Though water and lighting may work.

Isn't that basically the same? You're trapped outside rather than inside somewhere, though that's even worse.

At least it lead to something good for you. And that situation didn't last for long, I hope.

[Yoh laughs a bit.]

I've been fine as well. Not doing much besides training and lazying around, I know it sounds horrible for some people but... I don't really have much chance to lazy around back in my world, so I want to enjoy it here.

I won't say it doesn't get frustrating at times, specially since I've things to do back home, but there's not much point in worrying about that, right? Wishing for it isn't going to make it happen any faster.

[ Hey, Madoka isn't rude enough to listen in on conversations, okay. And right now she's too focused on making him something either way, she needs to try his best on the soup here if it's meant to make him feel better!!

So even when she walks back into the room, balancing the bowl of soup, she still looks pretty focused about all of it until she finally hands it over to him and can let out the breath she's been holding in. ]

That's true, Yoh. There's nothing wrong with sitting back and taking life easy, especially when... when it seems like there's not much we can do to change things around here. Being here is kind of a relief in a way from responsibility. I'm glad you're enjoying yourself, at least.

I see. But are there specific moments you need to connect to them and appeal to the bond you have formed with said spirit?

[Its symbolic. And utterly cool...but mostly symbolic.]

Well... Technically, I suppose so, yes. But in the long run, it did pay off! Since Milady ended up providing me with a new home, as well as a job.

Oh, you know. We just gathered up some magic elements and used the power of friendship to fix her up. Nothing too serious.

[Yes, she's serious about that, but her tone suggests she's aware of how silly it might sound.]

[He smiles and sits up enough to take the bowl of soup, humming at the feeling of its warmth spreading through his hands.]

It will help, no doubt. I already feel a bit better just by holding it.

[He starts to sip it, calmly and blowing a bit to not burn himself.]

It's delicious, thank you Madoka. I'm glad that you're here, if it wasn't for you I would have ended with a cold most probably.

[He doesn't seem too worried about the idea of having gotten sick, but then again why should he when it's unlikely to happen?]
