Kind of, though it probably won't be so drastic. In my case I know easily that something I'm suddenly perceiving isn't mine, even if it's an emotion or impulse that matches what I'm feeling.
You may also want to try talking out loud, they don't use words but they can understand us. After all, if you walk around the forest and find someone that isn't moving and looks as if they are concentrating without saying anything, you may think they are meditating or something, right? Not that they are waiting for you and wanting to talk. Talking out loud alone may feel silly but it's one way to make sure they know you want to talk with them and after you get to know each other more it probably won't be necessary for you to keep doing that.
