001st Oversoul ♨ Action / Voice

W-Wha? Hey, why is suddenly so dark?

[Yoh blinks as he stares into the darkness for a moment. Just a minute ago he had been talking with Ren and then... Then he finds himself there, in a small space, his body twisting and mostly uncomfortable due the position. Definitively he didn't get himself there on his own. He shifts, trying to get more comfortable, specially his back which is aching like crazy. In the process he kicks the walls of the tight space where he is and brushes against something that seems to feel like clothes.]

What is this, a wardrobe? Oi, Amidamaru?! Can you hear me?!

[He tries calling for his friend, his companion, and there's almost an immediate response. But something is off.]

Huh? Amidamaru? I can't...

[Maybe someone would like to check who is locked in their wardrobe some time soon?]

[Hours later and after getting a crash Luceti course, Yoh decides to play with the journal and get the hang of it. The feed turns on to his carefree laugher, even if he has many reasons to worry and be down, he's not going to let it be shown easily.]

Hehehe, look at this! This is quite handy, it reminds me of the Oracle Bell. I wonder if the bells have this feature too? I should ask Silva when I have the chance- Ah, it's on!

Hey! My name's Yoh Asakura, I arrived here today, nice to meet you! I have been told that there's a smithy in the village and that it's were weapons tend to show up. Does anyone know if there has been a new couple of swords there lately? They are very important to me so I would like to get them back as soon as possible.

And... No, nothing else, never mind that. Just wanted to ask about the swords. Thanks!

[He wanted to ask if there was anyone who recognized him but if his friends are here they will notice him just with what he had said so far anyway. And despite the way Luceti seems to be he's not going to just go and start talking about shamans without knowing a bit more and getting a better feeling of the village. Specially not when he himself isn't sure if he's a shaman anymore, what with how he can't even see or hear Amidamaru. At least he knows his friend is there, he can feel it in his heart and sense his emotions but... That's all. Yes, definitively not going to just go and talk about spirits until he has a better hold of his ground.]

[Anyway even if he has asked through the journals, Yoh's not up to just sit and wait so he will go and check the smithy himself. After all he asked about swords that had recently appeared but who knows, maybe they have been around longer than him with how crazy this place seems to be. And so Yoh will be off to explore the village, if he's going to be stuck here for God knows how long he may as well get used to it and know where everything is.

He will make stops at the clothing store and the item store besides the smithy. Eventually finding his way to spend two hours just staring at the landscape while standing on a bridge. He isn't someone to call attention on himself, just a normal dude, specially after he gets proper clothes. But he will be sure to pay attention all around him, others may have no reason to come and say hi, but he may decide he has reasons to do that to them.]

That's quite sometime.

[He won't say a lot because he knows others have been here for longer, it's still a considerable amount of time. Honestly, though, he was thinking he should assume he would be here at least for that long. It made things easier as it didn't give him too many hopes yet didn't make him hopeless.]

Must have been hard on you. Are you alone here?

It's quite some time. But.. i-it's usually not too bad. And I've been able to meet some really nice people here too, so I'm glad to get that opportunity. [ eternally optimistic. ]

And there were other people from my home here before too, but they're.. all gone now. It's just me.

I see, that's no good. But I'm sure they are all just waiting for you at home, so it's not as if you will never see them again.

[She's not the only optimistic one.]

In the meantime you can make new friends here you would have never met otherwise, right? So no need to feel lonely.

[Ha-ha-ha, sure. But from experience he knows humans like to think that they aren't alone just because they have many people around them that talk to them, very few realize that it can still be lonely that way. Manta himself didn't realize that his so called friends weren't really friends and that he was alone until Ryu beat him, and Manta was so intelligent... So Yoh assumes it will be the same with everyone else.]

[While Yoh's waiting on the bridge, a teenager wearing blue armor approaches, and starts crossing. His armor doesn't appear like a knight's, and looks kind of technological. He might be something of an interesting sight.]

[That's an interesting armor you have there. It's the color what catches his attention and makes him turn to look, he stays for the design. When the other is at around the same height as Yoh he decides to talk.]

Why an armor?

[He turns when the question's asked. He doesn't recognize the person who asked, but that won't stop him from being friendly.]

Oh, this old thing? [He raps a hand against his chestplate.] This is something I wear all the time back home. It's kinda hard to break the habit. My line of work was kind of dangerous so it never hurt to be prepared.

So you also wear it here even if it's not as dangerous?

[Well, he can understand that. Ren always carried around his weapons.]

Yup. It's almost like a second skin to me now. It feels weird if I go out without it, too.

That sounds pretty bothersome. It doesn't seem like a thing easy to take off and put on either.

... Ahaha, yes, that's right. [ There's something slightly awkward about it though, since.. nope, her friends won't be waiting for her. They're dead. But she's not going to say that, it'll just ruin the mood.. ] I just have to wait until I see them again.

In that case.. do you think the two of us could get to know each other better and become friends too? I wouldn't want you to be all alone here, after all..

[It would highlight one of the problems with humans as well, how they assume that death is the end of everything and there isn't anything beyond. But humans only believe what they see and even if they could be open minded chances are they would just want to use spirits for their own gain rather than even consider them as the people they still are.

Yoh smiles. He's not alone, even if he can't see Amidamaru or talk to him properly, he's not alone and he has his friends as well, even if they are a whole world apart. But... This girl probably wouldn't understand that, she has been nice enough to suggest becoming friends just like that too.]

Really? I would like that, even if the village is full of people it can get to be very lonely without at least a friend around. Even if it's a new friend, a friend is a friend.

Ah, it's not too bad. Once you're used to it, it's all... kind of routine. Kinda like brushing your teeth in the morning.

[He smiles a little, and scratches the back of his head.]

My name's Mega Man, by the way.

[... Is that really his name or is it just a title?]

Yoh Asakura, nice to meet you Mega Man.

[Nope, it sounds ridiculous even if he says it. And Ren complained about Chocolove's name, incredible.]

I arrived here just today, so I was enjoying the landscape and getting to know the village a bit. Have you been here for long?

[He almost senses that trepidation about his name.]

Thanks. I know my name's kind of... strange. I get it a lot. If you prefer, you can call me Rock.

[Even if he got that name as a result of an insult, but...]

I've been here for about.... almost seven months, now that I think about it. Anything I can help you with?

[It's strange and a bit ridiculous, but Yoh really isn't the type to let that judge anything. It wouldn't be different from what the other kids did to him at school, just because he liked Bob's music or spent his time at the train station talking to a spirit there.]

Nah, Mega Man is fine. Though with that name and that armor it reminds me of video-games, but it's still cool. But, is it Mega Man completely or Man is like a last name thing?

[Yoh smiles and shrugs a bit.]

I don't think I really need anything in particular. I already got explained the basis of this place and I have found my clothes and most of the other things I had with me before I arrived here. I'm just missing my headphones, but I'm sure they will appear soon.

So I was just enjoying the view.

[And trying to sense other spirits. He has but they feel somewhat different from Amidamaru even if the way to communicate with them seems to be the same as with his companion right now.]

It's just my first name. My last name is "Volnutt."

And yeah, they probably will. I've found a handful of my old armor parts over time, but not my best stuff. ...Or my helmet, for some reason. But I don't see why headphones would stay away for long.

[Mega Man looks out off the bridge, resting his arms on the railing.]

It's beautiful around here.

Ah, so it's Mega Man Volnutt then? I see, that's not bad.

[It still sounds strange but it sounds a bit better now.

Ah, so he has found old stuff he had but not the best parts of the armor. It's not the same but maybe it's related to how he can't see Amidamaru or talk to him, he hasn't tried yet but he doubts they could do an Over Soul in those conditions, much less a Hyoui Gattai. So basically he's just a human with no capacity to defend himself or do much. He doesn't know what Mega Man's armor does but if there's a difference between the old stuff and the best stuff that he can't find? It's probably safe to assume that his fighting capacity is also below his normal level back home.

Well, it makes kind of sense.]

Yeah, I'm sure they will appear soon, I'll just look for them again tomorrow and so until they do.

[He turns, resting his arms as well on the railing and admiring the view once more as he hums lightly.]

It really is. Leaving aside the fact that it's a prison, this place is incredible. We have electricity, warm water and many other comforts, yet the nature here is unharmed by it all. There aren't wires that disturb the landscape or put animals in danger or any contamination. I've never breathed in an air as clean as the one here.

[Of course there are many "comforts" missing, but he doesn't really consider them that important. Cars are useful indeed but there's nothing wrong with walking around.]

[Favorite programs? This kid has strange priorities! Not that Lupin was better when he was off of a job--at least he hasn't found a snow cone machine within the confines of the enclosure yet. Snow cones machines are completely awesome in his book! Amused by this, he rolls on forward.]

People's reactions to this place depends on who they are, how they think, and what they do. Some people don't mind it here. Other's find this place to be a static purgatory. It varies, honestly.

But that's a good mindset. "Everything will work out." You might just avoid some of the problems a lot of people have because of that!

Exactly, I think so too. Even though it does matter in a way how long you've known a person, everyone has to start out somewhere, right..? And any friend is important to me, no matter how old or new they might be.

And.. I'm sure you'll find this place is actually not bad to be in at all as long as you have friends by your side.

Hm, I'll try to look and see. I can meet you over there! We've had some people arrive not long ago, it might be easier with two people looking.

I heard it was the "season" for new people to arrive here, so it doesn't surprise me. But you're right, four eyes will always see more than two.

[There will be six eyes technically but it's not as if she'll know.]

One of them is a pretty normal katana, nothing special on first sight but it's really important. The other sword is easier to recognize, it's a red stone sword.

As I said, a friend is a friend. New or old are terms you can apply to things, not to living beings, specially when they are your friends. And it's even worse to treat them based on that, I don't think that's a very good way to be a friend.

[But he knows many people act that way, but it's just another bad detail in a long list of bad habits.]

I already think that this place isn't that bad. I don't like the idea of being experimented on or having robots kidnap me, but that and not being able to go back home are like the only problems here. [They aren't, at least not for him.] There are worse things back home and I still like it there so I don't have any reason to not like it here as well! Besides, everything will work out at the end, so there's no need to worry either.

[Yoh would join in for snow cones if a machine was found, they are great like that.]

I wonder in which group will I fall then, I guess the "don't mind it here". It's not as if I minded it back home, here or there, there are bad things in both places anyway. So long as I can have a mostly peaceful life I'll be fine.

[He laughs again.]

Well, it's true after all. Nothing lasts forever, for good or bad. If I keep believing and work for it things will be fine sooner or later. There's no point in over-stressing in wanting it to happen as soon as possible. The sun won't come out earlier even if you wake up at three in the morning everyday!

[Lupin laughs at this.] Hah, that's true. You seem like you're handling all this pretty well, kid. It's a lot more than a lot of newcomers can say.

...You should be able to get situated just fine!

Ah, I guess most people just don't like to be taken from their familiar areas without permission. Humans are creatures of routines mostly, I mean, I have seen many people throw tantrums or get upset over a change as small as changing classes so long as it was without their consent. Changing them to a whole new world will probably make it worse. And people don't like the unknown, either, it scares most of them.

[It's basically the core of humans' nature, scared of what's different and what they don't know, resistant to changes they don't have control over. They are perfectly fine with destroying forests or fields, changing them to cities, they are fine with changing their horses with machines that fill the air with toxic smoke. But if an earthquake changes the landscape? Or if they get sit from breathing all that toxic smoke because humans aren't meant to breath that smoke and survive? They get terrified over their lack of power and react angrily if they find even the smallest excuse of a target to blame to. It's rather annoying but it's unfair to blame them for what's in their nature as well.]

Ahahaha, if someone who has been here for a while already says that I suppose it will be true! Can I ask just one more question? How much does the inn here cost and around how much do the rents raise to? Ah, if you know of any place that is hiring that would be good as well, I didn't bring my wallet with those pants.

[He laughs again. Hey, just because this is basically a prison doesn't mean there's no money. He wouldn't be surprised to see whoever runs the place also taking care of stores and trying to send souvenirs just like the Patch did.]
