002nd Oversoul ♨ Voice

[The house had feels odd when he wakes up in the morning. It's something easy to notice for him, even if it still surprises him at times, like when he was able to felt that Manta was in danger. It's a subtle feeling, general and vague, that something isn't right, that something is lacking. His first thought goes for the samurai spirit that has been his companion for the longest time. It's natural after all, since the first moment he arrived here the samurai's presence had been vague and hard to see, even if he was clearly there, it was also as if he wasn't entirely there. To think that something terrible has happened, like Amidamaru using up all his furyoku to be able to just be in that state of presence or that Yoh's powers have finally vanished for some reason, isn't that strange or a wild conclusion.

But that's not it. Vague and subtle, just a fine outline of what would be Amidamaru's body, but he can still sense him there with him. Still there and also having a bad feeling, or does he actually know what's wrong? It's hard to tell when all he can pick up is a general idea of the samurai's feelings. Anyway, if Amidamaru's there then that only leaves Sonic to be the problem. It had been great to find his second spirit companion at the village as well when he arrived, specially since he was able to talk with him normally, though it made him worry more about why Amidamaru wasn't the same. What was the difference between both spirits?

Yoh makes his way to Sonic's room, it was a bit strange yet to get used to the idea that the spirit had a room of his own, but it didn't really matter much to him. Sonic not being there doesn't worry him either, the hedgehog had always been just like the wind, free and unstoppable when he wanted to be so. He probably had just gone out for some reason or another. Except because his room is completely empty.]

... Sonic?

[Amidamaru is by his side, he knows it and he can feel the samurai trying to comfort him. No, it's not that, he's... Reassuring him, that's the term. Though he's not sure what the spirit is trying to reassure him of. That Sonic will be fine back home? That he's still here at least? No, Yoh doesn't need that sort of reassuring either way. Even if it's sad to see his friend leave after so little time. He can feel Amidamaru try to guide him to the journals, Yoh obbeys easily, he trusts his friend after all even if he can't understand what he's trying to do exactly. Just like his friends trust him even if they don't get him the whole time.

A couple of entries later, Yoh's smiling as calmly as always. The brief moment of worry gone. Apparently his friend hadn't been sent home, most probably he had just been moved like other people seemed to have been moved. Definitively better.]

Hey, Sonic. If you hear this before you return home, can you go and get some groceries on your way here? Since you're already out and all that.

[Yoh laughs, nothing wrong in taking advantage of the situation, right?]

I hope that at least all your things are with you, because there's nothing left here. It will be a pain if we have to go around hunting for them.

How many people have been moved overnight, by the way? Is this a common happening? I can hear that the bit about missing a whole day seems to be common enough to be something to worry about. I really hope this doesn't have secondary effects like making us more forgetful when we grow old, or to start having memory problems before we're too old. That would be quite troublesome.

[And yet, judging by his laugh it doesn't seem he's particularly worried about it. Mostly because he's not, it's hard to worry about something that's beyond his control after all or something about which he can't do anything yet.]

I woke up in an apartment somewhere in the village. Near the square, actually. And yeah, my stuff's all here too.

[He shakes his head and shrugs.]

Not like it'll take me long to move it all back. Really, gonna take more than this to slow down a Wind Spirit.

...But groceries? Yeah, I can do that. Got anything you want, Yoh?

[Voice]

Then you aren't that far away after all. With that and your speed everything should be back in place soon.

[Yoh laughs a bit.]

Well, I think we are out of milk and eggs. Besides that if there's anything you would like to try just bring it along.

[Voice]

I'm already on packing everything up. Good thing I travel light, huh?

[He gives the screen a thumbs-up.]

You got it. I'll see you in a minute!

[Voice]

Even if you didn't travel light it wouldn't take long to move everything.

[Not with that speed of his.]

Okay, I'll start preparing breakfast then.

[And will be still starting to prepare it when Sonic arrives, most likely.]

[Voice]

You know it, my friend! I'll be there before ya know it.

[Sure enough, a blue wind blows through town in the following moments. It only pauses at the store to get an assortment of groceries and then blasts off for Yoh's house. He'll probably hear the front door open as Sonic zips in and out twice, once for the groceries, once for his stuff.]

Well, I wasn't moved overnight like a lot of others, but I did miss a day. I'd be more concerned about that, if it wasn't happening to others, too.

Any idea what might have caused it?

[ Voice ]

It sounds as if the missing of a day is far more general than the move. Aah, maybe it's because I'm still new but I think it's better that way than the other way around.

[It's annoying to not remember what happened yesterday, but he's sure that he can live on without one day of memories. It was far more worrying that everything was gone, even if at the end it was a fake alarm.]

And I don't know... Maybe we all had a big party yesterday and now we're all having temporal amnesia? Or maybe we aren't really missing a day and it's just a general impression we all have. It happened to me once, woke up thinking it was Sunday already but it was still Saturday and my friend had to come and drag me to school.

[And he laughs again at the memory of Manta dragging him around.]

[ Voice ]

[ A laugh. ]

I don't think I would mind, if it was something like that. Though it would have had to have been some party, to cause something like this, don't you think?

[ Voice ]

A really big and fun one, probably. If we were anywhere else everything probably would be a mess, but with this place almost cleaning and fixing itself on its own it's hard to say if it happened or not.

I wonder what we would have been celebrating though and why I don't have a headache, those are supposed to come after those parties, right?

[ He laughs. ] Must have been some party--So secret, we don't even know it happened. Who knows, though, that might be for the better. Imagine all the crazy stuff that might have happened there.

Hmm...well, headaches are a common side-effect. Maybe you just have good friends, hm? Stopping you before you do anything...headache-inducing.

[Voice]

No one over here has been moved, but all of my housemate's things are gone! We're still trying to find out what happened to them.

[Voice]

Eh? So your housemate was home but their things aren't? That sucks, how are you going to hunt them down?

[Voice]

I guess we'll have to start by checking all the shops. Maybe the Malnosso sent them there.

...oh, and if you see a stray chocobo -a large yellow bird that's used as a mount- please let me know. My housemate's missing that, too, but she must be roaming around somewhere.

[Voice]

A large yellow bird... That sounds as something hard to miss, I'll check around to see if I can see it.

What is your housemate missing? Maybe their stuff is at another house or something? I don't think I have anything that shouldn't be here but I haven't checked all the rooms here yet.

He's missing his harp...and, well, everything else. We haven't started checking other dwellings, but you could be right; I'll ask around over the journal.

[ That's right, he had seemed pretty smart when they last talked, right? Surely he could help her out with how confusing this was.. ]

... Um, would you mind helping me out? Something is.. really confusing me, and I wonder if it's memory problems too..

[She sounded worried indeed. Confused at the very least. But even if she didn't, Yoh isn't the type to easily ignore someone asking for his help. No matter what.]

Sure! What's wrong, Madoka? If it's about the feeling that you're missing a day, I have that too.

[ voice ]

Yes, I had that too! But.. there's something even more confusing. [ Something she herself hasn't even figured out. ]

Someone was suddenly at the door to my and Yui-chan's apartment, and.. they said they had been living with us all along, and Yui-chan said so too, but I can't remember that at all..! Isn't that weird? Does it mean.. there's something wrong with me?

[ voice ]

Huh? They both said that?

[That's... Strange. He could chalk it up to that person having moved just yesterday which would explain why Madoka wasn't remembering it... But then they wouldn't remember either, would they? Unless somehow they were exempt from that, though it sounded unlikely from what he heard in the journals.

Yoh hums for a bit as he thinks. Maybe it's just a prank, it was April's Fool just yesterday ago... Though it seems late for that now. Except that if they don't remember the day maybe they forgot the prank after all and did it again just for good measure. He doesn't really see the point of such a prank though, but it's pretty human-like to make fun of others by making them question their own sanity. Many of them laugh at people who have indeed problems with that after all.]

Are you sure they maybe aren't just pulling a prank on you? There are people like that, who like to make fun of others' sanity by making them question it themselves. Maybe they did it yesterday, it was April Fool's after all, but they don't remember if they did it or not so they are doing it again now.

[ voice ]

N-no, no way..! [ Are you ready for Madoka's eternal optimism and belief in people, Yoh? Because it's about to come out all over again. ]

Yui-chan would never play a prank like that on me.. well, she might play a small and funny prank, but she wouldn't do anything that made me upset! And I don't know the other new person that well, but.. they didn't seem like a bad person at all.

[voice]

I wouldn't say it's common, but it's definitely not unusual. I've never found myself somewhere I shouldn't be, but it certainly happens to other people every now and then.

[voice]

It says something about their dedication that they even include our things in the moving. I wonder what the objective of such a experiment is, maybe check further into how we react to sudden changes?

[Though the village itself is a big change.]

Do they repeat other things as well?

[voice]

I wouldn't be surprised. Even with small variations, they're certain to always get results.

[As for his question...]

Sometimes. They're apparently rather festive. The holidays are usually pretty extravagant.

[voice]

That's true. The only way for them to not get many results would be if we were completely apathetic to those things, which is rather hard to do.

[And quite pointless.]

So they do experiments even during holidays? You mean like Christmas as such?

[voice]

That's right. Even if you try to resist, I suppose it's not completely useless to them. It's still a reaction, after all.

It seems that way. They've been known to give gifts during December and dress everyone up in costumes the month of Halloween.
